Overview

An Island whose heartbeat never ceases!

Zanzibar, often called Africa’s Tropical Paradise, is a breathtaking Tanzanian archipelago set in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A vibrant blend of Arabic and African influences, rich history, stunning beaches, and warm-hearted people make this island one of the world’s most enchanting destinations.

But we invite you to experience something deeper—a Volunteer Voyage. This journey goes beyond exploration; it’s about living, working, and deeply connecting with the people and culture of the island.

At the heart of this experience is a special school project, where you’ll contribute to the completion of two classrooms, directly supporting local education and empowering young minds. Your hands-on efforts will help create meaningful change while immersing you in the daily life and spirit of Zanzibar.

This trip is different. It’s about embracing change—change in communities, change in the way we travel, and, most importantly, change within ourselves.

FAQ

What is Zanzibar known for?

Zanzibar is a beautiful island located off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. It is known for its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture. It’s called the ‘Tropical Paradise’ of Africa.

How about the weather?

Zanzibar is a tropical island with a hot and humid climate throughout the year. In July, the temperature ranges from 28°C to 18°C so it’s great for outdoor activities and light material clothing. It is also the driest month of the year, so humidity will also be less!

Do I need a visa to enter?

Visa requirements for most GCC countries are upon arrival. You can apply for it in advance to avoid any long queues.

You can find more information on the following website: https://visa.immigration.go.tz/

What are we going to do on this trip?

On this trip we’ll be doing a bit of everything, spending most of the day volunteering, and then we’ll be off to explore the country and do tons of activities like kayaking, cultural tours, spice farms visit and more!

I’m going solo on this group trip. Is that possible?

You’d be surprised on how many people register without knowing anyone on the trip! It’s a perfect way to build new networks that can turn into lifetime friendships!

The default is double occupancy, so you will be sharing a room with someone else. If you prefer not to, we can’t promise the availability of single occupancy as it depends on the destination, but make sure to notify the team of your preference!

Do you cater for any dietary restrictions?

Yes, we do try to accommodate any dietary restrictions that you might have. Just make sure you let the guide know in advance!

I’m on a budget and can only go on one vacation this year! Why Zanzibar?

Zanzibar is one of those countries that can be very close to your heart in just three days. As beautiful as the island can be, the people that you will meet while you are there will leave an amazing impression.

Why this trip? If you are passionate about giving back to different communities and learning more about cultures, this trip will be just the one you are looking for.

Do I need to be fit to join the trip?

Nope! This trip doesn’t require a high fitness level but it’s always a plus as you will be spending most of your day with construction work for classrooms and engaging with the students.

Are there any specific clothes required for this trip?

A packing list will be sent once you confirm your registration and will include the type of attire you need for the activities. But in general. light weight and breathable clothes, natural fabrics such as linen, silk, bamboo, and cotton that will keep you cool and are easy to wash and dry. You will be getting some paint and construction material on them!

Another thing to keep in mind is that most of the people dress very modestly and are a bit conservative.

Do we need any cash?

You will need cash for your meals that are not covered by the program. These include dinner meals and some lunch meals during days that you won’t be volunteering. Other expenses can include souvenir shopping.

ATMS are available in town if you need any extra cash.

What will a day in the volunteering program look like?

Our project for this year will be focused on renovating classrooms in a specific school in Zanzibar. So, you will be spending half of your day on school grounds coordinating with the constructions company on renovating one of the classrooms.

Do I need any vaccines?

Yes, you do. Yellow Fever, Typhoid and some home countries would recommend that you take Hepatitis A and B. The best way is to go to your local hospitals or clinics, advise them that you will be travelling to Zanzibar, and they will have the list of the recommended vaccines.

This is my first volunteering trip! What should I keep in mind?

For us, volunteering is a lifestyle with basic ethics and accountability that we need to be aware about. Here are just a few tips that you can have in mind once you start volunteering:

  • Show respect for the local culture and customs. Let’s observe first!
  • Have the right intentions and mindset. Why are you volunteering?
  • Dress appropriately. Do I need to be modest? Should I avoid any jewelry?
  • What sort of impact will we be leaving? Is it long term? How beneficial is it? What can I do more?
  • How would I want to be represented if I was a member of this community? Ask permission before taking photos and be mindful of your behavior.
  • How will my behavior change once I am back home? As much as we thing we will give the community, we always learn so much more.

Who do I talk to once I land in Zanzibar?

One of our guides will either be waiting for you or have the transportation arranged from the airport to the hotel for check in.

Make sure you share your ticket with the team as soon as its booked!

Where will I sleep and how often will we be changing our accommodation?

We love to be unique in our accommodation, so you’re in for a surprise!

On this trip we’ll be staying at a 4 stars’ hotel that’s in close proximity to the school we’ll be volunteering at and some local attraction. And it will include breakfast as well!

How will we get around?

We will be transporting around Zanzibar on a bus, so don’t forget to prepare your music list!

Who's my roommate?

We will be staying in a 4-star hotel accommodation with double occupancy rooms. If you have a friend joining you on the trip, you will be automatically paired together. Otherwise, you will be paired with another traveler from the trip either before the trip during the Zoom meeting or upon arrival when you meet the travelers in person.
